Legal Forum Advancing Bill Amendments

As part of the Legal Forum’s activities to improve the legal system, on November 23rd the Forum met with Justice Minister Shaked’s Legal Advisor in order to advance initiatives which the Forum is addressing, and to examine ways in which the Forum, with a force of 400 attorneys can support the Ministry’s activities.

Some of the points raised at the meeting were with regard to illegal infiltrators and the BDS Law.
1. Illegal infiltrators: The Legal Forum is advancing the enforcement of Section 2 of the Entry into Israel Law which stipulates a punishment of 5 years in prison for illegal infiltrators. In addition the Forum is demanding that tax laws be enforced on employers of illegal infiltrators.
2. The BDS Law: The Forum is advancing two amendments to the law that will allow for compensation without proof of damage and punitive damages.
3. Transparency in the legal system: Issues relating to this matter will be debated separately and they include separating the positions of the Attorney General and legal advisers in the government offices, the Judicial Appointment Committee, the Bar Association and the authority of the Supreme Court.
4. Affirming the Jewish identity of Israel in the Basic Laws: It was decided to establish a committee regarding this issue whose conclusions will be submitted by January 1st2016. Due to the fact that the Committee has not yet been established, the Forum has demanded that the Committee begin operating and advance an appropriate definition that will anchor the Jewish identity of the State of Israel in the law.
On Wednesday December 2 the Forum met with MK Nissan Slomianski, Chairman of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee. The Forum, with the support of the Committee is advancing the establishment of a special compensation fund for the victims of terror attacks and their families. The idea behind this fund is to offset monies of the terrorist families and any social benefits they receive to the victims.

There are additional issues on the agenda, and the current makeup of the Knesset and government allows for more efficient and effective action. Collaboration with the relevant authorities the Forum will continue to advance necessary changes that will strengthen the State of Israel.
