Changing the Face of the Israeli Police

For many years the police force has been perceived negatively in the public eye, seen as a body that fails to prevent and solve crimes. There are cases where policemen are not respected, and are not considered capable of properly dealing with crime and security. Moreover, the events surrounding the 2005 expulsion of the Jews of Gaza alienated much of Israel’s religious community, causing it to lose faith in the police.

Last week the country attention was focused on the story of the judge suspected of beating his children. The Attorney General received a request from the police three years ago to investigate the case, however decided not to authorize it. For three years this case has been left lying idle, and the judge, suspected of a serious offense continues to sit on the bench with no interference.

This week a hearing was held at the Planning Council Appeals committee regarding the objections filed against the establishment of the Rimonim waste disposal site. As previously reported in May 2013, the Legal Forum prepared its objections to the proposed site in the C area, under Israeli rule. The objections were filed in collaboration between the Legal Forum, Green Now, the Judea and Samaria Regional Councils, and the Municipal Environmental Associations .

The State of Israel faces a continuous struggle to strengthen its image in the international arena and defend its actions before the international community.

The most influential method of swaying global opinion is through the use of the media, and in recent years several movies and documentaries have been made which portray the State of Israel and the IDF in a negative light.

The Legal Forum to Cooperate with Jerusalem Police with Regard to Law Enforcement in East Jerusalem

Last week, Legal Forum Director General Nachi Eyal, together with attorneys from the Forum met with Jerusalem Regional Police Commander Major General Yossi Pariente.

During the meeting representatives from the Legal Forum raised many problems relating to issues of the personal security of the residents of Jerusalem, particularly residents of the Muslim quarter in the Old City.
